From Supper Club to Al Fresco Cafe

In 2018 Jen’s Underground dropped the ‘supper club’ concept. We’re now a small al fresco café tucked away at Urbana Residence. We’re open to the public and look forward to new visitors. We operate Tuesday to Sunday from 11.00am to 8.00pm.

We’ve shifted from the idea of secrets and closed doors. We’re focused on serving simple, delicious, home-style food, using the best quality produce that have the potential to nourish and nurture. Think of it as a move from celebrity cooking to community cooking, from Jim Haynes’ Supper Club to Chez Panisse, if you will. Jen calls it ‘honest cooking’ and, if we’re honest, when you’re working with amazing ingredients, the dishes you create can’t help but showcase themselves.

Our daily offerings range from fried rice, the way we’ve been eating it for years, and pastas, the way we learnt to make them in Italy. We avoid refined and processed ingredients as much as possible, our greens are free from pesticides and we use the best oils to cook our food in. What we make reflects what’s currently available, whether it be homemade burger patties, salads, upscale pies and pastries, and dessert. Jen makes and cooks everything by hand, with help from her husband Babs, who occasionally whips up some spicy dishes.

If time permits dishes Jen is known for, from the supper club and tea party days, will pop up on the menu.
